An 11 year old clenched a willow                       

To cricket he was a callow

Aged young he had to mellow

His batting made opponents turn yellow.

He appeared to be little

Cricket world did belittle

Overcame with a howling mettle

24 years he was in fine fettle.

Endearing as he looks like a pudgy

Developed a reputation as child prodigy

People worship having his effigy

Best batsman ever, anyone grudgy?  

Considered as Gavaskars' embodiment

Even Gavaskar astonied at his accomplishment

Every innings was an entertainment

None could fetch such an enthrallment.

Ballyhooed often as cricket God

Who can revolt with a nod

Yes, his strategies were a timely mod

A HUMAN with extraordinary fad.

Having reached great heights, still humble

Carried his career without any fumble

Masked himself from crickets' gamble

For cricket aspirants a perfect example

Highest run getter in all forms

On crease he just storms

Word or attitude he never harms

Controversies on him he just calms.

Cricket is most Indians' desire

Post 200th test he is going to retire.

Now on it will be an absolute tire

Melancholic, he no more wears blue attire
